The classic Garden Lodge is surrounded by lush vegetation and makes the ideal family getaway, whilst the new Forest Lodge will appeal to the traveler seeking more contemporary style. Suites have their own private balcony from which to tune into nature and admire the sunsets over the ocean. Natural textures and colors create a tranquil mood and finely appointed bathrooms bring a feeling of utter luxury. Strolling from your suite to the restaurant in the main lodge, winding pathways skirt the largest Milkwood forests in the world.

ACTIVITIES
The Cape Floral Kingdom - Join expert guides into the wonders of the fynbos, discovering fascinating insects, birds, mammals, and flowering plants of the diverse ecosystem. Take a walk through the thousand-year-old Milkwood forest. Explore by foot, four-wheel drive vehicle, or take a horse ride to enjoy the views.
The Beach - Feel the sand beneath your feet, visit stone-age coastal caves, accompany a specialist guide to explore the tidal pools, and spend an afternoon relaxing on a pristine beach.
Marine Big Five - From June to December, up to 160 of the 350 Southern Right Whales that visit the southern coast visit Walker Bay, where breaching, tail-slapping, and lob-tailing create a constant hub of activity. Join the Whale Whisperer, a custom built whale-watching boat on a marine big five adventure. Travel to the island for sea bird colonies, nesting African Penguin, Cape Fur Seals, dolphins and the awesome spectacle of a great white shark breaking the surface nearby.
Family Adventure - Enjoy a combination of education and fun where specialized guides accompany children on treasure hunts, excursions to the beach and rock pools, and on trips through the reserve to explore the natural environment. Collect shells, porcupine quills or insects to be brought back to the activities room. Babysitting services and kids menus available.

CONTRIBUTIONS - THE PEOPLE & ENVIRONMENT
Dedicated to conservation of the Cape Floral Kingdom and adjacent marine ecosystems, Grootbos' successful model of eco-tourism has initiated a number of projects in the region. In 2003, Grootbos established the Green Futures Horticultural and Life Skills College, which provides annual, practical based training for unemployed people from local communities, empowering them to better their lives and the lives of others in their communities. By staying at Grootbos, you are directly contributing to the conservation of the reserve and surrounding areas as well as the development of sustainable livelihoods amongst local communities.
