HACIENDA MANTELES

In the sloping hills above the town of Banos at the gateway of the mystical Llanganates National Park sits a hacienda that has become a 'must see' during any trip to Ecuador. Hacienda Manteles has created an environment in harmony with the exquisite natural beauty of Banos in Ecuador.

THE HACIENDA

Along with the wonderful gardens surrounding the main house, Hacienda Manteles encompasses a 200 hectare area of protected primary forest that borders the entrance to Llanganates National Park. The forest is home to an abundance of wild orchids that are native to the area. 16 cozy rooms offer guests a home away from home complete with ensuite bathrooms, hot water, wood burning stoves, and individual decor.

CUISINE

Located in the main house, the dining room maintains the original style of the hacienda. Dishes feature both a local and international combination of flavors created by a local chef.

ACTIVITIES

Mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, and trekking are all offered within the area near Hacienda Manteles. Banos itself is an adventure region with opportunities to visit waterfalls, atv rides, white water rafting, bird watching, canyoning, cooking lessons, and of course relaxing in the hot springs that have made the region so popular.

THE TOWN OF BANOS

Banos lies In the central Ecuadorian Andes at the foot of Tungurahua Volcano. It is an area that combines the landscapes of the Andean highlands with the tropical lowlands that approach the Ecuadorian Amazon. It is one of Ecuador's most visited destinations and famous for its adventure activities as well as the hot springs within the city. Waterfalls make their way down the monstrous volcanoes where they become rivers that carve through the town or remain hidden treasures waiting to be discovered amongst the lush tropical forest. The most famous waterfall in Banos is called the Devils Cauldron, or Pailon del Diablo. Banos is a city that must be visited for at least two days and can easily be combined into a larger itinerary. View the Ecuador Itineraries for examples of how to include this town in your Ecuador Vacation.
