The fishing around Poruma Island is a once-in-a-lifetime experience – an underwater maze of gin-clear channels, sand flats, reefs and bomboras are home to Spanish mackerel, sailfish, marlin, Trevally, Coral trout, rays, sharks, dugongs, jewfish and much more. Each island around Poruma will impress you with its own striking feature – a massive rock bar, sea turtle hatchery, bird life, giant sea clam ground, huge palms, WW2 relics or massive sand flats.
Abandon yourself for the day with a picnic basket, a fishing rod and snorkeling gear for one of life’s happiest experiences. If you’re lucky, the Poruma local fishermen might be available for a lesson in traditional fishing techniques – netting mullet, diving for painted crayfish and trochus shells or spearfishing.
