The Cooktown "Essence Of Oz" is a 3 day 4WD accommodated safari which will show you ancient rainforests and outback landscapes, ancient Aboriginal rock art, Cook’s adventures, a rollicking Gold Rush, amazing feats of exploration and pioneering hardships.

Day 1: You will head west over the Great Dividing Range into an outback landscape of termite mounds and cattle stations, to stop at Split Rock. At Split Rock you will climb the sandstone escarpment to view some ancient Aboriginal rock art depicting life and customs here thousands of years ago.

Day 2: Guests will have the opportunity to walk where Captain Cook once walked, and touch the sand where the “Endeavour” was beached. You will visit Grassy Hill, from where the famous navigator plotted his escape route, and visit the James Cook Historical Museum. The tour will visit eerie Black Mountain and the Lion’s Den Hotel before the rugged 4WD Bloomfield Track takes you to Cape Tribulation and the Daintree rainforest. You can walk in the World Heritage listed rainforest to see the wondrous plants of this primeval jungle, the oldest rainforest on Earth. Once finished your guide will check you in to your rainforest resort and explain self-guided activities available nearby.

Day 3: After a relaxed morning you will be picked up to travel to your private “Riverhouse” hideaway for lunch in the rainforest. The tour then turns to water as you board your riverboat to cruise on a secluded mangrove lined jungle creek, an excellent chance to see crocodiles … in the wild! Before returning to Cairns there is one last chance for a stop at Mossman Gorge, where you have the opportunity to swim in the rainforest.
