The Hunter Valley is Australia’s oldest, most visited wine region and is an easy two-hour drive north from Sydney. There are over 100 cellar doors to visit, with the region being renowned world wide for its varieties of Semillon, Shiraz and Chardonnay. As the region has grown many of the Verdelho, Merlot and Chamboucin varieties have started to emerge and become popular for wine lovers around the globe.
Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Brokenback Range, the area embraces many regions including Pokolbin, Rothbury, Broke Fordwich, Lovedale, Wollombi Valley and Mount View.
To compliment the wine, The Hunter is also renowned for its first-rate restaurants, all of which make good use of the local produce – Hunter beef, cheeses, duck, game, olives, stone fruits and honey which are all found in the area.
If you are hunting for something new to do, you may wish to experience a glorious sunrise from a hot air balloon, horse ride through a vineyard, browse through galleries and antique shops, or see the Valley by horse and carriage, bicycle or even limousine! The Hunter Valley contains activities for the entire family and is a great day or overnight destination from Sydney.
