Australia: Top End Tours: 3-Day Kakadu and Arnhemland
This tour combines some of the best of Kakadu with the special experience of travelling in Aboriginal Arnhemland, first to Oenpelli and then on to Mount Borradaile. The highlights of the trip include pristine World Heritage wetlands and unparalleled traditional Rock Art away from popular places.
Itinerary:
Day 1
Starting in Darwin, you will make your way to Fogg Dam to view wetlands of the Adelaide River before embarking for the bird hides of Mamukala Billabong in Kakadu National Park. After a picnic lunch, you will travel to Nourlangie to view some of Kakadu's spectacular rock-art. Then, with permission from the Traditional Owners you will cross the East Alligator River to enter Aboriginal owned Arnhem Land.
Day 2
Today guests wander and explore the restricted Traditional Art of the world-renowned Mt Borradaile area. This is a rare and privileged cultural experience. The tour has the opportunity to ramble through a maze of catacomb-like caves thickly painted with Aboriginal art, and discover Traditional and contact phase artifacts tucked away in crevices. At sunset take a private boat cruise through the nationally significant wetlands of Arnhem Land's Cooper Creek.
Day 3
Be up early to go fishing for barramundi, or take in some more Aboriginal art. Relax around the camp, take a rainforest walk or go for a swim in a (crocodile-free) water-lilly sprinkled pool. The morning is yours. After lunch your private plane takes you back to Darwin flying over the spectacular Kakadu coastline.
