2021 Socorro Group Diving Trip

Diving in Socorro is every diver’s dream

These islands are a spectacular magnet for the largest ocean pelagic animals and is the best place in the world to dive with them. They are home not just to giant mantas, but to a host of big animals. The manta behaviour in the Socorros is unique; these gentle giants actively seek out intimate interactions with divers. Friendly dolphins, whale sharks, silky sharks, schooling hammerheads, tiger sharks and more are also frequent encounters.

Build my 2021 Socorro Trip

The Revillagigedo Archipelago in Mexico

Socorro Island is one of the islands out of the 4 main islands which form the Revillagigedo Archipelago in Mexico. Socorro Island along with Roca Partida, San Benedicto, and Clarión make up the Revillagigedo UNESCO World Heritage Site and are all amazing spots for scuba diving. These 4 islands combined are commonly referred to the Socorro Islands or simply "Socorro". Socorro scuba diving is easily accessible to those who live in the United States. Divers simply fly into Cabo San Lucas where we meet our boat.

San Benedicto

San Benedicto Island has two prominent peaks, and a diver’s favorite here is “El Boiler”, a large pinnacle that reaches from the depths to within several feet of the surface. It’s small enough to swim around and is large enough to attract life from miles around.

The Boiler is perfect for up-close encounters with Giant mantas which often have a wingspan of over twenty feet.

Socorro

Socorro Island is a paradise for pelagics. Here you can dive with Dolphins which are often sociable and playful, encounter numerous Manta Rays and many sharks, particularly Silky, Galapagos, and silver tip sharks.

World famous dive sites here which include the Aquarium, Punta Tosca and Cabo Pearce

Roca Partida

This stony pillar attracts pelagics and huge schools of jacks and tuna. with many shelves and ridges to check out and explore.

At about 40′ there are large caves where large groups of whitetip sharks can be found sleeping. It’s often possible to explore right around the pinnacle otherwise, just hang out in one area and watch the pelagics swim by.

The Solmar V

A traditional strong steel hull with wood interiors, the Solmar V is a classic. A 112ft diving and exploration vessel with the best and most experienced crew Mexico has to offer. The interior of the Solmar V is outfitted in brass, rich mahogany, granite table tops and is completely carpeted. It is a gracious and beautiful boat. With only 12 well appointed cabins the boat retains an exclusive and uncrowded feel. Fewer divers mean less bubbles in the water and more individual space to fully experience and interact with the incredible marine life. The skipper and crew, veterans of these seas, is known far and wide for providing guests with the best attention, making everybody feel like part of the family. And, unlike most vessels diving the Socorros, aboard Solmar V, after a long day of diving, the margaritas, beer and wine, are on the house!

“Great Expeditions' exploratory adventure to Socorro was simply mind blowing. Incredible, up close interactions with giant, oceanic manta rays, playful and inquisitive dolphins, friendly whale sharks, and huge schools of hammerheads in the gorgeous blue depths. All topped off with margaritas served deck side after the last amazing dive each day. A world class dive adventure, all just a couple of hours away from the States”.
